Exhibitions
The main emphasis of the museum is on the historical Art Collection of the once independent city of Charlottenburg and the permanent exhibition “WESTEN!”.
The Art Collection was compiled by the initiative of the “Deputation for Artistic Matters” of the town of Charlottenburg in 1908 and experienced a significant expansion in 1912 by the private Raussendorff Foundation. It primarily consists of paintings and sculptures from the 19th century and the Berlin Secession, including works by Walter Leistikow, Hans Baluschek, Franz Skarbina and Max Liebermann. The collection is being presented to the public for the very first time in the permanent exhibition “SammlerStücke” on the first floor of the Villa Oppenheim.
Since 2014 the show “WESTEN!” in the Museum Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf traces the history of the 2001 joined district, focusing on the special role of both “beautiful sisters” Charlottenburg and Wilmersdorf emerging as a second town center City-West, alongside the Historical Center of Berlin. With the use of multimedia and a wide range of interesting objects the exhibition is devoted to events and people that have shaped the district for a period of over three centuries.
There are also special temporary exhibitions committed to topics and people of regional and cultural history.
